Naujasis TAIP TOLIAU kino klubo sezonas skirtas filmams, kuriuos savo laiku draudė, cenzūravo, karpė, permontavo arba pamiršo giliai archyvų lentynose. Filmams, kurie neatitiko normų, nesilaikė tradicijos, laužė taisykles ir buvo nepatogūs. Kaip akmuo bate.

Gegužės 6 dieną kino klubas sezoną atidarysi Muzeotekoje  – su lenkų režisieriaus Jerzy Skolimowskio drama RANKAS AUKŠTYN!, kurią pats autorius laikė geriausiu savo karjeros filmu.

Penki draugai susitinka po ilgo laiko ir prisimena studijų laikus, kuomet netyčia sugadinę Stalino plakatą pateko į bėdą. Jau tada jie neparodė solidarumo, o bailiai bandė išvengti asmeninės atsakomybės. Dabar jie – pasiturintys gydytojai, pravardžiuojantys vienas kitą turimų automobilių pavadinimais: Opel Record, Alfa, Romeo, Wartburg. Ši trisdešimtmečių karta nebenori pakeisti pasaulio ar kovoti prieš sistemą – jie tenkinasi reliatyvaus stabilumo laikotarpio teikiamais vartotojiškais malonumais. Kelionė gyvuliniame vagone tampa teatrališku psichoterapijos seansu.

Toks kritiškas tuometinės realybės vaizdavimas neįtiko valdžiai, o išdarkytas Stalino plakatas 1967-aisiais padėjo tašką filmo draudimo nuosprendyje. Po diskusijų su cenzūros prievaizdais Skolimowskis nusprendė emigruoti. Praėjus 14 metų, 1981 metais, buvo nuspręsta leisti filmą rodyti, tačiau režisierius nebenorėjo pristatyti filmo tokio, koks buvo sukurtas 7 dešimtmetyje. Iškirpęs 20 minučių, jų vietoje Skolimowskis pridėjo naujai sukurtą pirmąją filmo dalį, kurioje reflektuoja cenzūrą bei kūrybą egzilyje.

The new season of the TAIP TOLIAU film club is dedicated to films that were banned, censored, cut, edited or forgotten deep in the archives. Films that defied norms, broke tradition, broke the rules and were uncomfortable. Like a stone in a shoe.

On 6 May, we will open the season in Muzeoteka– with Jerzy Skolimowski’s Polish drama HANDS UP!, which the director himself considered to be the best film of his career.

Five friends reunite after a long time and reminisce about their student years, recalling an incident when they accidentally ruined a poster of Stalin and got into trouble with the authorities. Even then, there was no solidarity among them, each one cowardly trying to avoid personal responsibility. Today, they are successful doctors who refer to each other by the names of the car brands they own: Opel Rekord, Alfa, Romeo, and Wartburg. This generation of thirty-somethings no longer wants to change the world or fight the system. They are content with relative stability and the consumerist pleasures it brings. Their journey in a cattle wagon becomes a kind of theatrical psychotherapy session.

Such a critical reflection of contemporary reality was not welcomed by the authorities, and the distorted portrait of Stalin was the final straw that led to the film being banned in 1967. After discussions with censors, Skolimowski decided to emigrate. Fourteen years later, in 1981, permission was granted to screen the film, but the director refused to show it in its original form. Instead, Skolimowski cut 20 minutes from the film and added a newly shot first part, in which he reflects on censorship and creating art in exile.
